Privacy Policy
Data, permissions, and use of information
Last updated: September 18, 2026
Who we are
Connek is a Quebec-based professional services platform: a mobile app (Android and iOS), a web app, and management tools for businesses. It is operated from Montréal, Quebec, Canada.
This policy applies to all of those surfaces. It explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, where it is processed, how long we keep it, and how to exercise your rights.
Connek is intended for people aged 18 or over.
Person in charge of the protection of personal information
The person in charge of the protection of personal information at Connek is Connek’s General Management. You can reach them at team@connek.ca with the subject “Protection of personal information”.
This role may be delegated in writing to another person. If it is, their title and contact details will be listed here.
Governance
Our handling of personal information follows these principles:
- Roles. The person in charge oversees compliance with the law and with this policy. Only people who need it for their work can access personal information, and only the information they need.
- Retention and destruction. Each category of information has a retention period (see “Retention and account deletion” below). When that period ends, the information is destroyed or anonymized.
- New projects. Before any project involving personal information, or before sharing it outside Quebec, we carry out a privacy impact assessment.
- Incidents. Every confidentiality incident is recorded in a register. If it presents a risk of serious injury, we notify the Commission d’accès à l’information and the people concerned.
- Complaints. You can file a written complaint at team@connek.ca with the subject “Complaint”. We acknowledge receipt, the person in charge reviews it, and we reply in writing within 30 days. If the reply does not satisfy you, you may turn to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
Data we collect
We collect account information and the data needed to operate, secure, and improve Connek.
Account and profile
Name, email address, phone number, date of birth, profile picture, addresses, websites and social accounts you add and, if you run a business, its details.
Location
The app uses your device location to show professionals, businesses, and services near you. It is requested only when you use a feature that needs it, while the app is open. The app does not use your location in the background. You may decline: the rest of the app keeps working.
To search for places, your approximate location is sent to Google Places. Maps and address search are loaded directly from OpenStreetMap and CARTO, which receive your device’s IP address and the area displayed.
Contacts
With your permission, the app reads your device contacts to help you find people you already know on Connek and invite others. This permission is optional, and your contacts are never used for advertising.
Camera, microphone, and files
Used to take photos, make audio and video calls, send attachments, scan documents, and talk to the voice assistant. The camera and microphone are active only during the action you started.
Scanned documents
When you scan a document (an invoice or a receipt, for example), its content is processed to extract the text and attach it to the right record. If you upload an identity document, it is treated as sensitive personal information: restricted access and retention limited to the verification concerned.
Messages and content
Messages exchanged in the app, posts, reviews, and files you share. If a business writes to you on WhatsApp through Connek, the messages in that conversation also go through Connek.
Working for a business
If you are part of a business’s team on Connek, see “If you work for a business on Connek”.
Technical and diagnostic data
Device and installation identifiers, notification tokens, error and crash logs, and usage statistics.
Audience measurement (Google Firebase Analytics) automatically collects app usage events (screens viewed, session length), the device model, an installation identifier, and the approximate region derived from the IP address. It is used to understand how the app is used and to improve it, never for advertising.
Error reports (Sentry) are sent without personal information: sending it is disabled and the app masks such data before a report is sent.
How we use your data
We use information to manage authentication, bookings, messages, notifications, support, fraud prevention, and legal obligations.
Some intelligent assistance features (the Luci assistant, voice search, reading scanned documents, drafting marketing text, and a business’s WhatsApp assistant) process the content you submit to them in order to produce an answer. This processing is carried out by Anthropic and OpenAI and, for Luci’s voice, by ElevenLabs. That content is not used to train artificial intelligence models.
We do not use your data for advertising, and the app contains no ads.
Payments and billing data
Payments are processed through Stripe. Connek does not store your full card details: we receive and keep only the transaction record (amount, date, status, and the last digits), which we need for billing, dispute resolution, and tax obligations.
How we share your data
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following cases.
With businesses you deal with
When you book a service, the information needed for that appointment is passed to the business concerned, which becomes responsible for it for its own purposes.
When a business uses Connek’s management tools (clients, appointments, invoices, team), Connek processes that information on the business’s behalf, as a service provider. The business is responsible for it.
With our providers
We rely on technical providers for certain tasks. Each one receives only what it needs for its task. In brackets, where the data is processed.
- Supabase (United States, Northern Virginia) — database, authentication, and file storage: stores your account data, content, and files.
- DigitalOcean (Canada, Toronto) — Connek’s servers (application, background jobs, message queue, and gateway): all data exchanged with the app passes through them.
- Google Firebase (United States and other countries where Google operates servers) — push notifications (device token and notification content), audience measurement (see above), and App Check, which verifies that requests come from the genuine app.
- Apple (United States) — push notifications on iOS: device token and notification content.
- Resend (United States) — transactional email: your email address and the message content.
- Stripe (United States) — payment processing: the payment details you enter and the transaction details.
- Anthropic (United States) — assistance features, voice search, and reading scanned documents (invoices, identity documents): the content you submit.
- OpenAI (United States) — the Luci assistant, document reading, marketing text drafting, and businesses’ WhatsApp assistant: the content of the requests and messages concerned.
- ElevenLabs (United States) — the voice of the Luci voice assistant: the text it speaks and the audio of voice conversations with Luci.
- Meta (WhatsApp) (United States and other countries) — business messaging on WhatsApp: your phone number, your WhatsApp profile name, and the message content.
- Google Places (United States) — place search: your approximate location and your search.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) and CARTO (Europe and United States) — map tiles and address search, requested directly by the app: your device’s IP address and the map area displayed or the address searched.
- Sentry (United States) — error and crash reports, without personal information.
Where the law requires it
We also disclose information where the law requires it or to enforce our rights.
Where your data is processed
Your information is processed outside Quebec: our servers are elsewhere in Canada (Toronto, Ontario), our database is in the United States (Northern Virginia), and some providers process it in the United States, the European Union, or elsewhere, as shown in the list above.
Before sharing personal information outside Quebec, we assess whether it will receive adequate protection there, taking into account its sensitivity, the purpose for which it will be used, the protection measures in place, including contractual ones, and the legal framework of the place where it will be processed. Outside Quebec, your information remains subject to the laws of the place where it is located, including access requests from authorities there.
If you work for a business on Connek
A business can use Connek to manage its team. In that case, the business, your employer, is responsible for the information about your work. Connek processes it on the business’s behalf, as a service provider, under a contract, and does not use it for any other purpose.
Before you join a team, the app shows you a notice summarizing the points below (version of September 18, 2026) and asks you to accept it. No one can accept an invitation on your behalf.
What is recorded
- your name, photo, role on the team, and the email address you were invited at;
- your clock-in and clock-out times, hours worked and, if entered, your planned schedule;
- your absences and their type. For a sick leave, only the category is recorded, never the reason;
- the jobs assigned to you and the time you log on each one, when you start the timer yourself during your shift.
Who sees it
The business owner and its administrators. Your coworkers see only your name, photo, and role.
If the business offers you to its clients, they can see your name, photo, and role when they book, including on the business’s website. The business decides whether you appear there.
What we do not do
Connek does not track your location at work or what you do on your phone. No decision about you is made by automated means, and Connek does not rank team members against one another.
Corrections and missed clock-outs
To correct a clock record, you submit a request that the owner approves; the change, who made it, and when are kept on record. If you forget to clock out, you get a reminder; if you still do not, the shift is closed automatically with an estimated time and flagged for review.
Retention
Clock records and hours are kept for at least 3 years: that is how long Quebec labour standards require the employer to keep its register of hours. They remain under the employer’s name even if you leave the team or close your Connek account.
Your rights
You can see your hours in “My time”, ask for a clock record to be corrected, and request a copy of your data. Send your requests to your employer, who is responsible for them, or to team@connek.ca: we help the employer respond.
Security
We use access controls, protective measures, and encryption in transit where appropriate to protect your data. Team data can only be accessed through Connek’s servers, which check on every request who is allowed to see it.
Retention and account deletion
How long we keep your data
- Your account data and content: for as long as your account exists. After that, they are deleted or anonymized as described below.
- Identity documents: only for the time of the verification concerned.
- Invoices and transactions: for as long as the law requires for billing, tax, and accounting purposes.
- Clock records and hours worked: at least 3 years, for the employer (see above).
- The record of an account closure (name and email address): kept so that we can prove the closure took place.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from the app: Settings › Delete Account.
If you no longer have the app installed, write to team@connek.ca from your account email address with the subject “account deletion”. We process the request within 30 days and confirm in writing.
If you still own a business that is open on Connek, deletion is refused until you close it: close each of your businesses first.
When your account is deleted:
- your profile information is deleted or anonymized: name, photo, date of birth, email and postal addresses, phone numbers, websites, and linked social accounts;
- your login and notification tokens are destroyed: you can no longer sign in and nothing further is sent to you;
- the files in your storage folder (photos, attachments, documents) are deleted automatically;
- your sign-in account is deleted;
- if you worked for businesses on Connek, you leave their teams: your email address and photo are removed from your team record, any location data linked to it is deleted, and the notes on your absences are erased (their type remains). Your clock records and hours remain under the employer’s name, as the employer must keep them for 3 years.
What remains. Records that also belong to other people do not disappear: invoices issued and received, transactions, reviews you published about a business, messages your correspondents received and, for the employer, the register of hours worked. We also keep a record of the closure (your name and email address) so that we can prove it took place. These records are kept unlinked from your identity where possible, and for as long as applicable law requires.
Your rights
You may:
- access the personal information we hold about you and obtain a copy;
- have it corrected if it is inaccurate, incomplete, or equivocal;
- withdraw your consent to its use or disclosure;
- ask us to stop disseminating information about you or to de-index a link attached to your name;
- obtain the information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used technological format, or have it sent to a person or body authorized to collect it.
To exercise a right, write to team@connek.ca, from your account email address if possible. We may ask you to confirm your identity. We reply in writing within 30 days of receiving your request; if we refuse, we explain why and tell you what recourse you have. Access is free of charge; a reasonable fee may be charged for reproducing or sending a copy, and we would tell you in advance.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you may file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
Changes
We may amend this policy. The last-updated date at the top of this page indicates the version in force; if a change is significant, we notify you in the app.
